Beer is made by men, wine by God.

Poca Terra Winery
Four generations later, Giovanni’s wine press found its home at John and Karen’s farm in Marshall County, Kentucky. For many years those old tools served merely as conversation pieces, but in the back of John’s mind grew a desire to continue the family tradition. After much research on grape varietals that grow well in the climate and soil of western Kentucky, we planted a small vineyard of Chambourcin vines, a French-American hybrid that produces superb dry and semi-sweet wines that pair well with a wide variety of foods. So far, every step in making our award-winning, estate-bottled Poca Terra wines is done by hand, from the grape harvest, to pressing the grapes in that handed-down wooden press, to bottling and labeling. Our dry reserve is aged in Kentucky white oak barrels. Poca Terra wines are truly a taste of Kentucky!
For many years, Poca Terra has served as our refuge from the stresses of busy jobs. We look forward to sharing the calming ambiance of our home and farm, along with our very special wines, with old friends and new friends alike. Our vision is to convert our 1890-era stock barn into a tasting-room and event center which will serve as the backdrop for monthly events. We currently anticipate the opening of our tasting room for Spring 2022.
As we direct our time and energies to renovating the Tasting Room Barn, we are taking a “seasonal break” from hosting wine tastings and tours. We happily look forward to resuming those activities in March 2022.
Poca Terra Winery is OPEN for wine sales by the bottle or the case. Sales transactions can be completed online, over the phone, or in person here at the winery. We can arrange for “curb-side” pickup at your convenience or for UPS shipping.
Select Poca Terra wines are also available at these locations:
- Roof Brothers on Park Avenue in Paducah
- Kentucky Dam Liquors in Draffenville
- Kentucky Dam Village State Park
Let Poca Terra wines play center stage to your own wine-tasting party, happy-hour, or just special night-in. Our boutique, one-of-a-kind wines make every event special!

Tasting Room Barn Renovation
Anticipated GRAND OPENING Spring 2022
We are blessed with an 1890’s era stock barn at our farm, complete with a pretty little pond, which we are currently renovating into what we envision as a incredibly beautiful, rustically charming Tasting Room and Event Center. John is putting his carpentry skills to work! We are excited about this transformation and the additional opportunities it will enable. Wine truly does bring people together. We look forward to bringing even more people together for private tastings, special events, and hosting weddings and other celebratory parties in our “new” Poca Terra Winery venue overlooking the vineyard.
Watch for our Grand Opening in 2022!
Private Tasting Events
Resume March 2022
We are taking a temporary “seasonal break” from our highly popular private wine tastings as we focus our time and attention on the barn renovation. We plan to offer Private Wine Tastings, by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays, beginning the first weekend in March 2022. These highly popular events generally last for an hour and are a great opportunity to spend time with the winemakers talking about the history of the winery, the making of our wines, the art of wine tasting, and whatever else sparks your interest, all while sampling our unique wines. Our guests arrive happy – and leave even happier!
In the meantime, we are still OPEN for wine sales by the bottle or the case. You can place your order online, over the phone, or in person here at the winery. Just call to arrange a convenient time for pick-up. We also deliver via UPS. Don’t know which wine to order? No problem — give us a call and we can talk you through our wine offerings to match to your personal taste. We have something for everyone at Poca Terra Winery.
Looking forward to seeing you in March for a Private Wine Tasting!
Poca Terra Release Party
To Be Determined
As you can see, we are selling out of many of our wines. The rosés are all gone, as is the Tawny Owl. We are so glad that you all love our wines!
So we are looking forward to the “reveal” of our soon-to-be bottled 2019 dry red Chambourcin and a new port-style wine, the Black Raven. We are also busy working on three varieties of our 2021 Chambourcin rosé. If there is one lesson to be learned from wine it is “patience”!
From one great grape comes four great wines!

September 18, 2021
Our 2021 Harvest is over and, WOW, were we blessed! We had a record-breaking bumper crop of huge, gorgeous, healthy clusters that were quickly crushed and settled into their fermentation tanks. Thanks to our outstanding 2021 Harvesting Crew!
Grape harvest and wine making are a time-honored, ancient tradition. We are delighted to be able to offer our Poca Terra friends and family this unique and memorable opportunity to be active participants in the hands-on process of making our estate-bottled wines. The annual gathering of the grapes is followed by a delightful celebration of the vineyard’s efforts of the past growing season and a celebration of the next step of our grapes’ journey as they transition into our very delicious, pure-Kentucky wines.
Want to be a part of this special experience next year? Attendance is by invitation only and the limited number of spots must be reserved ahead of time.
